Intell ISS '06 Conference, Hainan, China April 20-22, 2006
Partnering with RedHat, Gupta Technologies presented the Gupta/RedHat solutions partnership at the recent Intel ISS '06 conference in Hainan, China. This event is attended by Intel's premium resellers and distributors from the Asia Pacific region and is used as a showcase to highlight value added solutions that can be incorporated into the Intel world. With in excess of 500 attendees from all countries in the region, it provided an excellent opportunity to present Gupta's Linux based product range and focus on how

these are being used in the Retail and Manufacturing sectors of the Intel world. Several of the attendees expressed interest in continuing discussions on how their organisations could work with Gupta and Red Hat in providing a higher value. This event also provided an additional venue where the strong relationship between RedHat and Gupta was once again displayed.

Gupta participates in Linux World Beijing 2005
In asociation with Red Hat, the leading distributor of Linux platforms, Gupta demonstrated the power of the Team Developer, Report Builder, and SQLBase to the attendees at this event.

During the period of 17th to 19th of August, Gupta presented the products and demonstrated the power they enable the Linux user to bring to the desktop, to between 220 and 250 Linux developers in the greater Beijing region. These developers came from Private Industry, the Government and from Education facilities.

With attendees numbering over 2000, the Linux World event was highly successful for both Red Hat and Gupta. Gupta Team Developer and Report Builder are acknowledged by Linux developers as being the clear leader in the field of providing "Windows" like application development and database query tools for Linux.

Leveraging on the long history and success that Gupta has in providing these tools to the Windows market, we are very excited at the prospect of releasing the products in Chinese language during 2006.

Wine Conference 2005
Charles Stevenson, GUPTA's CTO spoke at the annual Wine conference in Stuttgart Germany on April 30th through May 1 2005.

Mr. Stevenson spoke on the commercial value of Wine and how it is accelerating the adoption of Linux throughout the business community.

The Wine development community is a dedicated group of professionals committed to implementing a robust and reliable implementation of the Windows API on Linux. www.winehq.org This group has been working on this project for over eight years, and has enabled business to more rapidly adopt Linux by providing a means of porting existing Windows applications to Linux.

There is a lot of misconceptions regarding Wine, I would like to clarify some of them here:

  • Wine is not Linux. Not true, Wine is simply a compatibility layer that allows the rapid migration of windows based applications to Linux. But Wine is Linux - no question about it.
  • Wine is a loosely organized group of people without any direction or guidance. This is simply untrue, this group of professionals have a roadmap, have solid source code control processes in place and have a group of leaders that work very closely together formulating the roadmap and coordinating members efforts.
  • Can I get a commercial version of Wine? Yes, you can, there are a number of ways to do that, one is to simply go to CodeWeaver's www.codeweavers.com and enter into an agreement with them to provide you a commercially supported version.

Charles Stevenson will also be speaking at the upcoming San Francisco LinuxWorld conference in August.

LinuxWorld Boston, February 2005
February found GUPTA at the LinuxWorld show
in Boston, MA. Attended by well over 6,000 people - the GUPTA team showed off the newest release of Team Developer 2005 and demonstrated the porting of an application from Windows to Linux. We can talk about it all we want, but some people just need to see how easy it is. Needless to say, the demonstrations generated a buzz throughout the conference and

stirred representatives from Novell, Intel, Oracle and several others to visit our booth and hear more. That, in addition to several good meetings with the media, made this a really successful show.

Solutions Linux Paris, February 2005
GUPTA's first stop in 2005 was the most important fair in France - Solutions Linux, which was held at the La Defense business center of Paris, France. Exhibitors showcased their latest Linux products such as Novell's Linux Desktop and Red Hat's Linux Enterprise Desktop. GUPTA's booth was

crowded with people over the three-day exhibition. The GUPTA team presented Team Developer and SQLBase running

on Linux and Windows, highlighting the feature of creating business applications using one line of code for both platforms.

Customer demand for cross platform development is pushing more developers and VARs to think about how they can create applications that run on Linux and Windows platforms. Team Developer and SQLBase are a perfect fit for mixed environment requirements and help ISVs and VARs win new projects and grow their businesses.
